1st In Rail is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Transport Manager to join our growing team, working daytime hours from our offices in Canning Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of a large fleet of vehicles while maintaining the highest industry standards. They will work closely with senior management to ensure the business continues to deliver an exceptional service to our clients while achieving operational efficiency and best value.
Essential Requirements
- Hold a full, clean C1 driving licence as a minimum.
- Possess a valid Driver CPC qualification and Driver Digital Tachograph Card.
- Hold a National Transport Manager CPC qualification as a minimum.
- Have at least 3 years' proven experience in a Transport Manager role.
- Demonstrate experience managing a fleet of 100+ vehicles, ensuring full legal compliance at all times.
- Have an excellent understanding of operator licence requirements, DVSA regulations, driver hours, vehicle maintenance scheduling, and transport legislation.
- Be confident making operational decisions independently and taking ownership of transport-related issues as they arise.
- Be highly organised, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience managing a fleet operating under the FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) accreditation.
- A strong understanding of FORS Bronze, Silver, and Gold requirements. We are currently FORS Gold accredited and are looking for someone who can maintain and further develop these high operational standards.
- Experience working with transport management systems, vehicle compliance software, and performance reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation of a fleet of over 100 vehicles.
- Ensure all vehicles, drivers, and transport activities remain fully compliant with current legislation and company policies.
- Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, servicing, MOTs, and defect reporting.
- Monitor driver compliance, including licence checks, Driver CPC requirements, tachograph compliance, and working time regulations.
- Maintain the company's FORS Gold accreditation by ensuring all required standards and procedures are consistently met.
- Work with management to identify opportunities for improving operational efficiency and reducing costs without compromising safety or compliance.
- Liaise with drivers, workshop staff, suppliers, and customers to ensure the smooth running of transport operations.
- Produce reports and maintain accurate transport records for audits and compliance purposes.
