The salary will be on the management scale £46,125 to £52,218 per annum, plus an extra responsibility payment of £3,300 per annum for the cross college head role.
The purpose of the role is to lead, inspire, motivate and drive continual improvement across the college in mathematics and English, (GCSE, Functional skills and other stepping stone qualifications), to enable all learners studying these critical subjects benefit from a consistently high-quality learning experience and make substantial and sustained progress from their starting points.
You will report directly to the Vice Principal of Curriculum and Quality and manage both GCSE, functional skills and stepping stone qualifications.
You will be accountable for the success of students who study GCSE, Functional skills and stepping stone qualifications in maths and English. This success will be measured through high attendance, achievement, including progress and high grades, progression rates, high quality teaching and learning and student satisfaction surveys. You will be responsible for the college’s mathematics and English strategies and delivering the strategies through your team. You will work with your teams to develop their professional practice and will carry out observations with your team in line with the Teaching, Learning and Assessment observation policy to ensure that this development is having the desired impact. You will also undertake appraisals of all your staff. You will be the college champion for the delivery of mathematics and English subject teaching and support other Heads of Department in developing the skills of their staff in this regard.
