Job Description
We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RGN) to join our hospice team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, person-centred nursing care to patients with life-limiting illnesses, ensuring comfort, dignity and the highest standard of end-of-life care.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care while supporting patients and their families through every stage of their journey.
Main Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, effective and compassionate nursing care to patients receiving palliative and end-of-life care.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate personalised care plans.
- Monitor patients' physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing.
- Administer medications, including controlled drugs, in accordance with professional standards and organisational policies.
- Manage pain and other complex symptoms using evidence-based practice.
- Provide emotional support, education and reassurance to patients and their families.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in patients' conditions.
- Work collaboratively with doctors, specialist palliative care teams, therapists and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential clinical records.
- Support advance care planning and ensure patients' wishes are respected wherever possible.
- Supervise and support Healthcare Assistants and Senior Care Workers.
- Promote safeguarding, infection prevention and patient safety at all times.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives and mandatory training.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of hospice services.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse (Adult) with no restrictions on practice.
- Minimum of 2 years' post-registration nursing experience.
- Previous experience working in palliative care, hospice care, oncology, community nursing, acute medicine or elderly care.
- Sound clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Experience administering medication safely, including controlled drugs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

- Qualification or additional training in palliative or end-of-life care.
- Syringe driver competency.
- Venepuncture and cannulation skills.
- Experience supporting families through bereavement.
- Experience mentoring students or junior staff.
- Knowledge of Gold Standards Framework (GSF), advance care planning and end-of-life care pathways.
