About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and organised Transport Planner / Traffic Planner to join our busy transport operation.
This is a fast-paced role where you will be responsible for planning customer deliveries efficiently, managing drivers and vehicles, coordinating subcontractors, monitoring delivery performance and ensuring that all transport activities comply with legal and company requirements.
The successful candidate will be confident working under pressure, have excellent communication skills and be able to make quick, effective decisions in a constantly changing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan customer deliveries in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Allocate drivers, vehicles and subcontractors effectively across company sites.
- Communicate delivery instructions clearly to drivers, subcontractors and internal teams.
- Ensure drivers have the correct delivery documentation.
- Monitor driver progress, delays and delivery performance to achieve agreed service levels and KPIs.
- Track customer deliveries and take appropriate action when issues arise.
- Maintain accurate information within the traffic management system to support effective invoicing.
- Allocate work in accordance with current Operating Licence legislation.
- Ensure vehicle and trailer servicing and compliance requirements are completed on time.
- Manage the balance between company fleet and third-party subcontractors.
- Liaise with Accounts regarding contractor payments and customer payment schedules.
- Deal with customer enquiries professionally, promptly and effectively.
- Maintain strong communication with customers and internal departments.
- Ensure returned goods/items are accurately recorded on the system.
- Provide sickness and holiday cover for colleagues within the department.
- Support the Senior Management Team with additional duties as required.
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience working within a Transport, Traffic Office or Transport Planning environment.
- Experience of vehicle planning and driver allocation.
- Good numerical and computer skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to remain calm and make effective decisions under pressure.
- A flexible, reliable and professional approach to work.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday 08:00 - 18:00
