Job Overview
We are seeking Catering Assistants to work across both our café and events business at Manchester Art Gallery. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering excellent customer service, supporting day-to-day café operations, and assisting with the smooth running of a diverse range of events. You will help maintain high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and quality while contributing to a welcoming and professional environment.
Duties
- Support the daily operations of the café, assisting with food and beverage service.
- Prepare and serve beverages, including specialised coffee drinks, maintaining high barista standards.
- Assist with the setup, service, and clear-down of private events within the gallery, including moving and arranging furniture to meet event requirements.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain cleanliness throughout all working areas.
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service, ensuring a positive experience for all visitors.
- Assist in food preparation and basic kitchen tasks as required.
- Monitor stock levels and inform supervisors of items that need replenishing.
- Handle customer enquiries and escalate any issues appropriately.
- Work collaboratively with the wider team to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
- Follow all health, safety, and hygiene procedures, including manual handling where required.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a café, hospitality, or customer service role is desirable.
- Barista experience is preferred, with a willingness to learn and develop skills.
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly and professional approach.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- A positive attitude and willingness to support colleagues and contribute to team success.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation and hospitality standards is advantageous.
- Ability to undertake some manual handling tasks.
