We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic British Sign Language (BSL) Communication Support Worker to join our team in South Manchester.
This is a varied role providing communication support to Deaf staff members across office-based, community and remote environments. The successful candidate will use British Sign Language (BSL) to facilitate effective communication, ensuring Deaf colleagues can fully participate in meetings, training, day-to-day activities and workplace events.
The role includes both face-to-face support and remote communication using video calls and other digital communication methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide communication support to Deaf staff members using British Sign Language (BSL).
- Facilitate effective communication between spoken English and BSL.
- Support staff during one-to-one meetings, team meetings, training sessions and presentations.
- Provide communication support within office environments, community settings and remotely.
- Accompany staff members to meetings, appointments, workplace events and other activities where communication support is required.
- Assist with communication via telephone, email and digital platforms, adapting or clarifying information where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with managers, colleagues and external professionals to promote accessible communication and an inclusive working environment.
- Always maintain confidentiality and professional standards.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A minimum British Sign Language (BSL) Level 3 qualification (higher qualifications are welcome).
- Experience supporting Deaf BSL users in a workplace, education or community setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive working relationships with a wide range of people.
- A flexible and professional approach to work.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- A willingness to travel between locations as required.
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle (preferred/essential if applicable).
