About the role
We are seeking an External Communications Officer to join our Communications and External Affairs directorate.
This role offers the opportunity to support the delivery of the Commissions public information service, ensuring members of the public can access clear, accurate and timely information about the UKs electoral system.
A key responsibility will be responding to enquiries via telephone and shared email inboxes. You will use established guidance, including FAQs and approved messaging, to ensure that responses are accurate, consistent and aligned with the Commissions tone of voice.
While prior experience within a communications function is not essential, candidates should be able to demonstrate strong transferable skills. The role offers opportunities for development, with scope over time to gain exposure to a wider range of communications activity. This may include supporting the preparation of briefing materials, working with public affairs and media colleagues, and contributing to the handling of press enquiries.
About the team
You will join our Customer Services Team, a small, supportive team of four, which sits within the wider and growing External Communications function.
The team plays a key role in delivering public information and supporting complaints handling, with a strong focus on collaboration and knowledge sharing. During peak election periods, the team also supports and mentors additional temporary staff to manage increased demand.
There are regular opportunities to work with colleagues across the organisation, including devolved teams, providing a broad understanding of the Commissions work and stakeholder environment. The role also offers exposure to public affairs activity and insight into how the Commission engages with senior external stakeholders.
