About Us
Flok Jobs is a pre-launch startup on a mission to fix hospitality hiring for good. We're building the UK's first direct, real-time platform connecting hospitality venues with verified, flexible staff — no agencies, no fees, no nonsense. The founder has over 20 years of hands-on hospitality industry experience, we know the pain points on both sides of the industry firsthand, and we're building something no one else in this space is currently doing.
We're small right now, but we're moving fast towards launch and that's exactly why this is an exciting time to get involved. Joining a startup at this stage means real influence, real growth, and being part of the story from day one, not joining after all the interesting decisions have already been made.
The Opportunity — Why We Want to Be Fair About It
We're looking for a Full Stack Developer to join us for an initial 4-week period, working closely with our Director and core team. We know that words like "trial" or "unpaid" can raise red flags in this industry, so here's exactly what we're offering and what we're not:
- This is a genuine, hands-on opportunity to build real features on a real product before launch
- You'll work closely with the Director and team, not sit on the sidelines, so your contribution will matter
- At the end of the 4 weeks, we'll sit down together and have an honest conversation: if it's the right fit for both sides, this becomes a paid, ongoing role as we head towards launch and grow
- If it isn't the right fit, we'll tell you clearly and give you honest feedback, no ghosting, no vague excuses
- We won't ask for anything beyond what's reasonable for the time and days agreed, as no unpaid overtime, no scope creep beyond what we discuss upfront
We want anyone taking a chance on us at this early stage to feel that the arrangement is transparent and respectful of their time and effort, not just useful to us.
Why Now Is a Great Time to Join
We're a small team, which means every person here genuinely shapes what Flok has already become, so there's no getting lost in a big org chart. As we head towards launch, there's real scope to grow with us: take on more responsibility, build up your role, and be part of decisions that actually matter. If you're someone who wants more ownership, more variety, and a front-row seat as a company grows from the ground up, this is that opportunity.
Working Arrangement
We're based out of our Loughborough office, and while we value in-person collaboration, hybrid working is available, as some of our existing team already work this way. We just ask that you're able to come into the office regularly enough to stay closely connected with the Director, especially given the collaborative, fast-moving nature of a pre-launch startup.
What You'll Be Doing
- Building and improving features across our pre-launch web and mobile app (frontend and backend)
- Working directly with our Director and the wider team on product priorities and technical decisions
- Contributing to our JavaScript/React-based stack and supporting backend/API development
- Helping troubleshoot, test, and refine the app ahead of launch
- Communicating regularly and clearly with the team, whether in the office or working remotely
Who We're Looking For
Skills matter, but at this stage, attitude and communication matter just as much:
- A strong communicator — comfortable keeping the team updated, asking questions early, and flagging issues before they become problems, especially important given the hybrid setup
- The right attitude — proactive, positive, and willing to roll up your sleeves in a small, early-stage team
- Willing to grow — comfortable picking up new skills and responsibilities as the role and product evolve
- Solid experience with full stack development (JavaScript/React, Node, and general API/backend work)
- Comfortable working across the stack — frontend, backend, and everything in between
- Genuinely excited by startups and building something from scratch, not just executing a finished roadmap
- Able to work from our Loughborough office regularly (hybrid), or based near enough to commute
- Bonus: experience with AWS, app deployment (App Store/Google Play), or prior early-stage startup experience
What You'll Get
- A genuine seat at the table with the Director and founding team of a pre-launch startup, led by someone with two decades of real hospitality industry experience
- Hands-on experience building a product tackling a real, unsolved problem in a multi-billion-pound industry
- Real influence — at this stage, your input can shape the product and team, not just add to a backlog
- Genuine room to grow as the company grows, with more responsibility and opportunity as we head towards and past launch
- Flexibility to work hybrid, alongside clear, honest communication throughout the 4 weeks about how things are going
- A defined path to a paid, ongoing role if the fit is right, agreed openly rather than left vague
