Finance Assistant
Salary: £35,000 - £38,000 per annum, depending on experience
Role: Full Time
Location: Chancery Lane, London / Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 day remote)

We are seeking a proactive and detail-orientated Finance Assistant to work with our Financial Controller We are a friendly team and as our business grows, we’re looking for someone who wants to be part of a friendly, supportive workplace where experience and reliability are valued.
Job Role – Finance Assistant
This is a busy, fast paced and varied role and we are seeking a self-starter who can take accountability for their own workload.
You must have:

Strong accountancy knowledge up to trial balance stage

Experience in assisting with month-end close, including journal postings
Key Duties – Finance Assistant
Sales Ledger
-
Accurately allocate incoming receipts within the accounting system
-
Investigate and resolve discrepancies, including payment shortfalls, currency differences, etc.

Investigate unidentified receipts
Purchase Ledger
-
Ensure supplier invoices and staff expense claims are integrated correctly to Xero
-
Ensure correct coding, including nominal accounts, billing / event IDs
-
Support supplier payment runs by prioritising payments based on event timelines, matching invoices against supplier statements and flagging discrepancies for resolution
Bank & Cash

Perform regular bank reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are promptly investigated and resolved

Maintain accuracy of expense card postings in Xero, ensuring correct nominal coding, billing allocations, and VAT treatment, supported by valid receipts
Credit Control

Ensure credit control procedures are adhered and that invoices are collected within agreed credit terms

Resolve customer invoice queries promptly to minimise delays in payment
General Finance Duties

Perform timely reconciliations of balance sheet accounts

Support the preparation of management accounts and reporting packs

Compile event gross profit (GP) reports and investigate variances

Assist with VAT compliance, including supporting UK VAT return submissions, ensuring proforma invoices are replaced with valid VAT invoices and assisting with foreign VAT reporting and deadlines
The ideal candidate
-
AAT / CIMA or ACCA qualified or part qualified or QBE
-
Previous experience in similar role in a small to medium sized UK organisation is essential.

Good working knowledge of UK VAT; exposure to international VAT is advantageous

Experience supporting month-end processes and management reporting

Strong proficiency in IT packages, especially Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g. Xero)

Comfortable working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Strong organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and take ownership of tasks, through to completion

A positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Proactive mindset with the ability to identify and implement process improvements

Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
