Ground Operative / Grounds Maintenance Operative
Role OverviewWe are seeking a reliable and hardworking Ground Operative to join our team. In this role, you will maintain outdoor spaces to a high standard and provide crucial ground support during larger tree operations. This is a hands-on position requiring experience in physical outdoor work, teamwork, and a commitment to safety. Key Job Duties
- Garden Maintenance: Weed, plant, prune, and clear flower beds .
- Hedge Cutting: Trim and shape hedges safely using petrol or cordless trimmers.
- Grass Strumming: Use strimmers and brush cutters to manage edges and overgrown areas.
- Small Tree Trimming: Prune and trim small trees independently using hand tools or polesaws.
- Ground Support: Assist colleagues during big tree removals by dragging, clearing, and processing branches.
- Waste Management: Feed branches into woodchippers and responsibly clear green waste from sites.
- Equipment Care: Perform basic daily maintenance and safety checks on all tools.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: Preferred experience in professional grounds maintenance, landscaping, or basic arboriculture.
- Driving Licence: Must hold a full manual driving licence (essential for travel between sites).
- Skills: Competent in operating petrol garden machinery (strimmers, hedge cutters).
- Fitness: Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Teamwork: Good communication skills to work safely around heavy machinery and colleagues.
Desirable Qualifications (Advantageous)
- Relevant NPTC tickets (e.g., Chainsaw maintenance, cross-cutting, or chipper tickets).
- Trailer towing licence (B+E). [1]
