Job Summary:
The Safety harness seamstress will specialize in the assembly, stitching, and finishing of heavy-duty safety harnesses, helmet fitting straps and towing equipment.
Main Job Responsibilities:
- Operate Industrial Sewing Machines: Proficiently use specialized, heavy-duty machines (e.g., single-needle, bar tackers) designed to handle thick webbing, heavy materials, and extreme strength threads.
- Assembly and Stitching: Sew multiple layers of fabric/webbing to create strong, durable safety products for motorsport and military use.
- Follow Specifications: Accurately read and interpret technical drawings, instructions, patterns, and work orders to ensure products meet stringent engineering and quality standards.
- Quality Control: Inspect personal work for defects, ensure all stitching is correct and secure, and verify finished articles match pattern instructions to maintain high safety and quality standards.
- Material Handling: Accurately measure and cut materials, position parts for assembly, and attach functional accessories like buckles, fasteners, and labels.
- Maintenance: Perform basic, routine maintenance on equipment (e.g., changing needles, oiling machines) and report any mechanical faults to ensure optimal performance.
- Meet Production Targets: Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment to meet production deadlines and quotas.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: Proven industrial sewing experience is often preferred, but employers may provide on-the-job training.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of various sewing techniques and the ability to safely operate industrial sewing machines.
- Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail and precision is crucial, as the work involves manufacturing potential life-saving safety equipment where quality is paramount.
- Physical Stamina: The role may require sitting or standing for extended periods, performing repetitive motions, and potentially lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Coordination: Strong hand-eye and hand-foot coordination.
- Communication: Ability to follow directions accurately and collaborate with team members and supervisors.
