Pharmacy Manager Overview
We're looking for a Pharmacy Manager to take ownership of our dispensary as it comes to life. This role starts part-time, ideal as a secondary income, giving the right person the flexibility to join us from the ground up, while the business moves through licensing and towards launch, with the opportunity to grow the role, and their career.
It's a rare chance for someone with solid pharmacy experience to step up into a management role and genuinely make it their own: shaping the SOPs, the systems and the standards that the dispensary will run on for years to come, in a sector that's still maturing.
Key Responsibilities
Dispensary Operations
· Oversee the day-to-day running of the dispensary, ensuring safe, accurate and timely dispensing of prescription-only medicines, including Schedule 2 and 3 controlled drugs.
· Act as Responsible Pharmacist during dispensary operating hours, in line with GPhC Responsible Pharmacist Regulations.
· Develop, implement and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) covering dispensing, storage, labelling, and patient safety checks.
· Manage the end-to-end prescription workflow, from receipt through to clinical/accuracy checks and dispatch.
Regulatory Compliance
· Ensure the dispensary and its day-to-day practices meet GPhC standards for registered pharmacies at all times.
· Maintain full compliance with the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 for the storage, record-keeping and destruction of controlled drugs.
· Work closely with the Superintendent Pharmacist and Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Manager to satisfy Home Office Domestic Licensing Unit (DLU) requirements.
· Maintain accurate CD registers, audit trails and governance documentation, ready for internal review or external inspection at any time.
· Stay current with MHRA guidance relevant to the dispensing of unlicensed specials and CBPMs, and flag any changes that affect practice.
· Support internal audits and any GPhC, Home Office or CQC inspections as required.
Business & Inventory Management
· Manage stock levels, ordering and supplier relationships for medicines, consumables and dispensary supplies.
· Implement and maintain inventory controls to minimise waste, expiry loss and stockouts.
· Oversee the processing of online prescriptions and orders through the platform, ensuring a smooth and reliable patient experience.
· Monitor turnaround times end-to-end and identify opportunities to improve efficiency as order volumes grow.
· Report regularly to the Directors on dispensary performance, stock position and compliance status.
Essential
· Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), or eligible for registration.
· Proven experience working in a dispensing pharmacy environment.
· Sound working knowledge of pharmacy law, GPhC standards, and controlled drug regulations.
· Confident managing stock and inventory, ideally using digital systems.
· Comfortable working with online prescribing/dispensing platforms and general IT systems.
· Excellent attention to detail, with a methodical and safety-first approach.
· Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
What we offer
· A genuine ground-floor opportunity to help shape a pharmacy function from scratch, in a new and fast-growing sector.
· Part-time flexibility now, with a clear path to a full-time, senior role as the business grows.
· Real autonomy to design the processes, systems and team the dispensary will run on.
· A place in a small, agile team building a vertically integrated medicinal business from the ground up.
