Househam is a leading UK manufacturer of self-propelled crop sprayers, supporting customers across the UK and worldwide.
We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Technical Engineer to design, optimise and develop new and existing products and features within the Househam range whilst ensuring compliance with the latest legislation in the most effective, efficient and economical way.

The Role
As Senior Technical Engineer, you will be responsible for the integration and implementation of all control systems that bring our self-propelled crop sprayers to life. You'll own the integration of the machine's core control systems, from the engine and drivetrain through to spraying and height control, ensuring everything works together reliably in the field.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. You'll be the engineer who understands how the whole works, how the engine, wheel motors, and drive pumps coordinate to move the machine, how the spraying controller manages application, and how the height control system keeps the boom where it needs to be.
You will work closely with senior leadership, sales, purchasing, and customers to ensure our products remain competitive, innovative, and aligned with market needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the integration of control systems across the machine. This includes engines, Drive pumps, Motors, Hydraulic valves, spray controllers, pneumatic control systems etc
- Carrying out engineering processes including ECR/ECN systems, BOMs, and project planning
- Creating and maintaining timelines for strategic projects (Example, Integrating a new component onto the machine, with a full break down on costs and timings)
- Supporting Sales and Purchasing with accurate costing and quotations
- Driving continuous improvement and product innovation
- Collaborating with the design engineers to ensure control system requirements are reflected in machine design
- Ensuring compliance with standards, legislation, and technical documentation
- Supporting long-term initiatives such as quality systems and ISO standards
- Mentoring Junior engineers within the team
- Getting hands on in the production workshop or out in the field
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Mechanical Systems (hydraulic/hydrostatic, water/chemical spray, pneumatic)
- Electrical/electronic systems (CANBUS communication, general off highway wiring principles)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within a design and development environment
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and product development
- Strong project management and organisational skills
- Ability to fault find in an efficient manner
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience)
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience with PLC/Embedded controller programming (e.g. CODESYS 2.3 or 3.5)
- Experience with DFMA
- Familiarity with engineering change systems and project tools
- Computer Aided design experience (Solidedge, Solidworks)
- Experience in Addictive manufacturing
