An opportunity has arisen for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join an independent, charity-owned veterinary practice in Birmingham.
This is a genuinely varied first-opinion role within a growing practice that works closely with an established animal welfare organisation. Alongside providing high-quality care to private clients and their pets, the team also supports animals within the organisation's rehoming centres.
All profits generated by the practice are reinvested into the charity's wider work, offering the opportunity to work within a practice where patient care and animal welfare sit at the heart of everything they do.
The Practice
This is a purpose-built, independent veterinary practice providing a varied combination of first-opinion and shelter medicine.
The team manages a broad caseload across consultations, surgery, diagnostic work and inpatient care, with cases ranging from routine preventative healthcare through to emergency presentations and more complex medical and surgical cases.
The practice is well equipped with facilities including:
- Digital radiography
- Ultrasound
- Dedicated dental room with digital dental radiography
- In-house laboratory facilities
- Separate dog and cat wards
- Large operating theatres
- Dedicated consultation rooms
- Well-equipped staff areas
With three Veterinary Surgeons and three RVNs on site, the team works collaboratively across consultations, operations, inpatient care and shelter medicine.
The practice continues to grow, creating an exciting opportunity for another Veterinary Surgeon to join the team and help manage its expanding caseload.
The Role
This is a varied GP Veterinary Surgeon position offering exposure to a broad range of medical and surgical cases.
The caseload includes:
- First-opinion consultations
- Routine spays and castrates
- Shelter medicine
- Medical cases
- Emergency and critical care
- Road traffic accidents
- Diagnostic imaging
- Orthopaedic cases
- Inpatient care
- A wide variety of general practice presentations
The practice is keen to support Veterinary Surgeons with their own clinical interests and areas of development.
Whether your interests lie in surgery, medicine, imaging or another area of practice, there is scope to develop your skills while remaining part of a genuinely varied first-opinion caseload.
The Team & Culture
You'll be joining a supportive and collaborative clinical team of Veterinary Surgeons and RVNs who work closely together across the different areas of the practice.
The team structure allows colleagues to focus on different areas throughout the day, including consultations, operations, inpatient care and shelter medicine.

Working Pattern
- Full Time or Part Time applications considered
- Full-time position based on 40 hours per week
- 4-day working week
- Part-time applications considered, ideally approximately 30 hours per week
- 1 in 3 Saturday mornings, 9am–1pm
- No out-of-hours
- No on-call
- Flexible working arrangements can be discussed for the right candidate
- Shared rota supporting a second animal welfare centre, with morning-only visits
The Individual
The practice is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon with 18 months+ clinical experience who enjoys the variety of first-opinion practice and wants to work within a charity-owned environment.
You'll ideally be:
- MRCVS
- 18 months+ clinical experience
- Confident working across a varied first-opinion caseload
- Team-focused and approachable
- Passionate about providing high-quality patient and client care
- Interested in developing within a supportive, independent practice
