The Origination & Distribution Support team is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of Sky's Broadcast Playout, MCR and Live Events Hub systems. Supporting some of the UK's largest live sporting, news and entertainment events, the team provides technical support across traditional broadcast infrastructure, IP networks and cloud-based services.
As a Broadcast Support Engineer, you will provide technical support across a broad range of broadcast systems that underpin Sky's playout and live content operations. Working as part of a highly skilled engineering team, you'll be responsible for fault diagnosis, preventative maintenance and operational support, ensuring critical broadcast services remain available around the clock.
What you'll do
Provide world-class first-line technical support and timely fault diagnosis for Sky's Broadcast Playout platforms, Live Events Hub and MCR.
Work within one of two engineering teams comprising Broadcast Support Engineers and Senior Broadcast Support Engineers, operating an AP shift rota.
Perform logical and methodical fault finding across a diverse range of broadcast and IT systems within a large-scale playout and live production environment.
Accurately record incidents, maintenance activities and technical changes within the ticketing system, driving issues through to resolution.
Respond to operational support requests, perform routine maintenance and complete proactive health checks across supported systems.
Support both traditional SDI-based broadcast infrastructure and modern IP, virtualised and cloud-based broadcast workflows.
Collaborate with operational teams, engineering colleagues and third-party vendors to maintain high levels of service availability and operational resilience.
Contribute to continuous service improvement by identifying recurring issues, recommending improvements and maintaining technical documentation.
What you'll bring
Essential criteria:
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10/11 and Windows Server environments.
A solid understanding of compressed and uncompressed IP video technologies, including SMPTE ST 2110, SMPTE 2022-2 and SMPTE 2022-6.
Knowledge of broadcast signal chains, production workflows and playout systems.
Experience of structured fault investigation, log analysis and root cause identification.
Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
An understanding of Zixi Zen Master would be advantageous.
Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals, including multicast, VLANs and routing, would be beneficial.
A degree or qualification in Broadcast Engineering, Media Technologies or an equivalent technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
The ability to analyse and resolve complex technical issues, including those where no established solution exists.

How you’ll work
This role is onsite in our Osterley office.
Shift Pattern
You will be required to work a shift pattern covering a seven-day fortnight:
Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Week 2: Wednesday and Thursday
Shifts are 12 hours in duration.
Following completion of your onboarding and training, you will participate in the full engineering rota, including early and late shifts and an on-call week within a 12-week rotation.
