About the Role
Nevin Day Centre is seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Manager to support the day-to-day leadership and operation of our specialist Day Centre for adults with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, and behaviours that may challenge.
The Deputy Manager will work closely with the Day Centre Manager to support operational oversight, staff performance, safeguarding, compliance, behaviour management, and the overall running of the service.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong communication skills, confidence managing behaviours that challenge, and the ability to support staff teams within a fast-paced and high-support environment.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the Day Centre Manager with the daily operation of the service Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to staff teams and shift leads Support behaviour management and incident oversight across the service Assist with staff supervisions, spot checks, probation reviews, and performance management Ensure care plans, risk assessments, and daily documentation are completed to the required standards Support safeguarding processes and escalation procedures Assist with audits, compliance checks, and quality assurance processes Support staff deployment and operational organisation across classrooms Promote person-centred care, dignity, independence, and safeguarding at all times Support the management of behaviours that challenge, including physical intervention where required Maintain professional standards and support a positive working culture within the service
Requirements
- Previous experience within a care leadership role is essential Level 3 NVQ in Health & Social Care or higher required Experience working with autism and behaviours that challenge essential Experience supporting or managing staff teams within a Day Centre, supported living, or residential environment preferred Good leadership, communication, and organisational skills Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure Flexible approach to operational needs of the service Willingness to complete ongoing training and development

Due to the nature of the role and the needs of the individuals supported, this post is restricted to male applicants only under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010 as a Genuine Occupational Requirement.
The service currently supports predominantly male service users who display behaviours that may challenge and may require physical intervention and restrictive practice as part of approved behaviour support plans. The role also includes supporting personal care and maintaining appropriate gender matching between male staff and male service users to support dignity, privacy, safety, and behavioural support needs.
