Pro-rata annual salary: £14,000–£15,000, based on 20 hours per week, depending on experience

Gold Fins Swimming is a growing, family-run swim school based in Croydon, providing swimming lessons for children and adults in a supportive, high-quality learning environment.
We are looking for a reliable and confident Lead Swim Teacher & Duty Lead to support the smooth running of our swimming sessions. This is a hands-on poolside role combining swimming teaching, duty lead responsibilities, parent communication, teacher support and session organisation.
The role would suit an experienced Level 2 swimming teacher who is ready to take on more responsibility within a growing swim school.
Working Hours: This is a 20-hour per week role.
Core session hours are:
- Monday: 4:00pm–6:00pm
- Tuesday: 4:00pm–7:00pm
- Wednesday: 4:00pm–7:00pm
- Thursday: 4:00pm–6:00pm
- Friday: 4:00pm–7:00pm
- Saturday: 1:30pm–4:30pm
Additional paid time is included for opening, closing, water testing, poolside reset, parent communication and admin follow-up.
About the Role
The role is approximately 50% teaching and 50% duty lead / coordination.
You will help ensure lessons are safe, organised, welcoming and delivered to a consistent Gold Fins standard. You will also act as the responsible poolside lead during sessions, supporting teachers, swimmers and parents.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality swimming lessons across children’s classes, adult lessons, group lessons and private lessons
- Act as duty lead during Gold Fins sessions, including opening/closing procedures, poolside checks, equipment setup and pack-away
- Carry out routine pool water testing, record results accurately and escalate any concerns in line with Gold Fins and venue procedures
- Support teachers and assistants during sessions, helping with class organisation, swimmer grouping, lesson flow and poolside reset
- Welcome parents and swimmers, support trial families, answer basic queries and escalate sensitive matters to management
- Monitor swimmer progress, support class movement recommendations and help maintain accurate registers and attendance records
- Maintain poolside and changing area standards during Gold Fins sessions, ensuring the areas used by Gold Fins are kept tidy, safe and presentable before, during and after lessons, including coordinating mopping/reset where required
- Report incidents, hazards, safeguarding concerns, parent issues or operational concerns promptly to management
What We Are Looking For
Essential:
- STA Level 2 or Swim England Level 2 swimming teaching qualification
- Valid NRASTC qualification
- Safeguarding training
- Enhanced DBS or willingness to complete one
- Experience teaching swimming lessons
- Confident, calm and professional communication with parents, swimmers and colleagues
- Reliable availability for the stated working pattern, including Saturdays
- Practical, organised and hands-on approach
- Ability to lead poolside while following Gold Fins policies and procedures
Desirable:
- Previous lead teacher, duty lead or swim coordinator experience
- Experience supporting other swimming teachers
- Experience with adult beginners, nervous swimmers or SEND swimmers
- Routine pool water testing experience
- Swim England Coordinator qualification or similar
