Role Overview:
As the Commercial Coordinator, you will support the Union’s commercial activities, services and campaigns to increase income. You will be a key member of staff in working with any relevant external media partners e.g. SU Network.
Key Role Requirements:
- Support the Head of Commercial and Operations to implement and deliver KSU’s commercial strategy and operating plans
- Lead on developing and delivering physical and digital advertising on campus, including pop up stalls, TV screens, newsletters and social media
- Ensure our commercial websites and media packs are kept up to date (Advertise with us form, Media Pack, Kingston University Merchandise)
- Respond to all digital and in person enquiries regarding KSU commercial activity, ranging from advertising opportunities to merchandise orders, ensuring responses are accurate, timely and focus on providing excellent customer service
- Lead on the supply, sale and management of official Kingston University and Kingston Students’ Union Merchandise Sales
- Liaise with the wider team to plan, create and deliver content about our commercial activity
- Help to develop partnerships both internally and externally to maximise income and engagement with members and customers.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Stakeholder Management:
- Effectively work with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. suppliers, University staff) to provide the most effective service for the Union, and ensure that service is provided and conducted in a timely manner
- Keep key stakeholders up to date on progress of commercial activity; other Coordinators, Managers and/or Full-time Officers, trustee boards, sellers and external funders where relevant
- Keep up to date with commercial activity across other student unions to provide relevant input
- Assist any relevant external media partners with bookings to ensure that all on campus bookings are successful and managed onsite appropriately
- Successfully deliver Kingston University and Kingston Students’ Union merchandise sales in line with key projects like Graduations, Welcome Week and other key Student Union and/or University events.
Project and Workflow Support:
- Support the delivery of commercial campaigns in collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Assist in managing timelines, budgets, and resources for commercial projects
- Coordinate with external suppliers, including printers, designers, and media partners.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Track and analyse the performance of commercial campaigns using relevant tools
- Provide reports and insights on income including merchandise sales – in store and online
- Support continuous improvement of commercial offering.

Essential
- Good general education, typically to the Higher/A level equivalent
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
- Experience of facilitating/managing small, medium events
- Experience of managing relationships with external stakeholders and working collaboratively
- Understanding of the purpose and nature of activities relating to commercial initiatives within a Student Union
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Excellent customer service skills and levels of professionalism
- Ability to work across a series of priorities and tasks
- Strong problem-solving skills – particularly under pressure

- Experience of working within a Students' Union or in a higher education setting
- Demonstrable understanding of Students' Unions or other democracy/voluntary organisations
- Knowledge of current themes affecting students in the Further Education/Higher Education sector
- Understanding of the higher education environment and student experience
- Awareness of GDPR and data protection regulations
- Using social networks as a tool for communication for an organisation/campaign
