Job Title: English & Maths Functional Skills Tutor
Location: Carshalton Centre & Brighton Centre (In-person)
Hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00
Salary: £35,000.00 per annum
Reports to: Functional Skills Co-ordinator
About the Role
We are an established training provider with over 26 years’ experience supporting young people aged 16–19 across South London and Surrey & Brighton. Our mission is to help learners progress in education, develop essential life skills, and prepare for employment and adulthood.
We are seeking a dedicated English & Maths Functional Skills Tutor to deliver City & Guilds qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2. You will work with a diverse cohort of learners, including neurotypical and neurodiverse students, some of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
You will be supported by Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and will play a key role in fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where learners can thrive academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging English and Maths Functional Skills lessons (Entry Level 1 to Level 2)
- Delivery GCSE English in-line with awarding body criteria
- Plan and prepare Schemes of Work and lesson plans tailored to individual learner needs
- Monitor and track learner progress, contributing to reviews and target setting
- Work collaboratively with Learning Support Assistants to support learner development
- Maintain accurate records and complete daily administrative tasks
- Support learners’ personal development, wellbeing, and employability skills
- Participate in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and training
Candidate Requirements
- A relevant teaching qualification
- Experience delivering Functional Skills English and Maths
- Understanding of SEND and Educational Health Care Plans
- Knowledge of safeguarding, Prevent, and pastoral support
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Good IT, organisational, and time management skills
- A proactive approach to professional development
