Job title: Technical Report Writer & Administrator (Home Based)
Pay: £14.00 per hour to start, rising to £16.00 as the role develops
Hours: 16 hours per week. You choose when you work them, within reason.
Job type: Part time, permanent
Location: Home based. You will need to come to Wigan for induction and training in the first few weeks, and occasionally after that. Beyond that, you work from home.
About the role
This is a home-based role focused on technical report writing and document production for a specialist property company. If you have a background in report writing, technical or legal document work, journalism, or careful administration, this may suit you well.
Revenge Kleaning Services Ltd investigates and resolves damp, mould and moisture problems in social housing and private property across the North West. Our surveyor visits properties, takes moisture readings and photographs, and records his findings. Your job is to turn those notes into the finished report.
These reports are used by housing associations, local authorities and insurers as formal evidence, so they need to be accurate, clear and well written every single time. A typical report brings together photographs, technical observations and recommendations into a single, structured document that a housing provider relies on to make decisions and meet its legal obligations.
You would work from an established template and a clear set of writing standards. You do not need any experience of damp or mould, and you do not need to be technical. We will teach you the subject. What we cannot teach is care with words.
What you would do
- Produce damp and mould survey reports from the surveyor's site notes and photographs
- Follow our house style and reporting standards precisely
- Prepare and issue invoices, and follow up unpaid ones politely and persistently
- Keep job records and documentation up to date
- Help with day-to-day correspondence, scheduling and coordination
This is a varied role in a small business. Report writing is the core of it, but you will wear a few hats, and the role is likely to grow as the business does.
What we need from you
- Excellent written English. This is the most important requirement by some distance.
- Genuine accuracy. Reports that go out with errors in them cost us work.
- The ability to follow a set format exactly, without drifting from it
- Confidence with Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Comfort working with AI-assisted tools, which we use to produce reports, and the judgement to check and correct what they produce rather than accept it at face value. Accuracy always comes before speed.
- A suitable place to work at home, and a reliable internet connection
- Self discipline. Nobody will be stood over you.
- Discretion. You will read about people's homes and sometimes their circumstances.
Helpful, but not essential
- Experience of technical report writing, document production, proofreading, editing or journalism
- Experience in construction, property, social housing, legal or insurance work
- Experience with credit control or invoicing
What we offer
- £14.00 per hour to start, rising to £16.00 as the role develops and our reporting standards are consistently met
- Home based, with genuine flexibility over when you work your sixteen hours
- A company laptop and everything you need to do the job
- Full training on the subject and the systems
- As our survey work expands, we expect this role to grow with it, offering increased hours and wider responsibility over time
- The chance to see the whole of a small business rather than one corner of it
Pay: £14.00-£16.00 per hour
