Barbers Cheesemakers is the oldest and largest family-owned cheddar makers in the world and produce our award winning cheeses in the same dairy that we did back in 1833!

Due to growth of the business we have opportunities at AJ & RG Barber Ltd for three Electrically &/or Mechanically biased Multi Skilled Engineers in our Maintenance Team.
The Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer will work within a team of engineers to provide maintenance cover for the cheese production facility, in addition to the maintenance role, this role may require the candidate to work alongside others to complete in house project works on a minor project basis or provide support and assistance, as required, to the Site project team.
The site operates a rotating roster for engineers which includes being on call. The roster aims to maximize a healthy work life balance. A full copy of the working roster will be available on request.
You must be able to arrive at site within 45 minutes when on call.
The candidate must be energetic, hard working and enthusiastic to join our busy Team!
Engineering skills include:
Qualified to a minimum of NVQ3 in an engineering discipline.
Time served apprenticeship training.
General engineering on site with a best in field approach, including measurement and analysis of equipment using predictive maintenance techniques.
Fault finding to diagnose on plant issues affecting performance.
Boiler operation and maintenance and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Operation of cooling towers and maintenance and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Operation of water treatment systems and maintenance and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Operation of compressed air systems and maintenance and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Operation and stocking of the engineering stores.
Equipment servicing - valves pumps etc. as per the prescribed maintenance plans.
To provide front line, out of hours on call cover on a rota basis.
To take on any other responsibilities or tasks that are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
Previous experience in the dairy or food related industries would be beneficial but not essential.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Electrical skills include;
Qualified to the 18th Edition of the IEE regulations.
Time served electrical biased apprenticeship training.
Proven track record of fault finding and fault diagnosis.
Competency in panel wiring and diagnosis.
Competency and understanding of safety systems.
Understanding of the fundamentals automation and process control systems.
Show an aptitude for mechanical engineering
Remuneration & Benefits
Total Annual Salary is £54,639.42
(Made up of Annual Salary £47,267.94 per annum, Shift allowance - £512.94 per month, Call out allowance - On call allowance paid as an average over the year at £101.35 (per month)
Holiday entitlement – 31 days per annum (including Public & Bank Holidays in England & Wales). The holiday year runs from April to March. The entitlement rises to 31 days after 10 years.
Pension – 5% Employee/5% Employer contribution
Life Assurance – 2 x annual salary (after completion of 3 months service)
Bike to Work Scheme – Uncapped (after 12 months service)
