We are seeking a Quality Inspector to carry out inspection on a variety of sub-assemblies in accordance with quality and industry standards. This is a crucial role and candidate must have previous experience.
Job Purpose:
The Quality Inspector is a key contributor to FermionX’s commitment to excellence, responsible for ensuring that all products meet stringent quality standards and customer expectations. This role not only safeguards compliance with IPC-A-610 and industry-specific requirements (medical, automotive, aerospace), but also actively supports continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing defects, enhancing processes, and driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Testing:
- Perform visual inspections of surface mount and through-hole PCB assemblies to IPC-A-610 standards
- Carry out first-off, in-process, and final inspections of PCBAs, sub-assemblies, and finished units
- Conduct basic functional and dimensional checks using inspection tools such as microscopes, callipers, and multimeters / test jigs
- Operate AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) systems and X-ray machines for fault detection and process assurance (training can be provided)
Documentation & Reporting:
- Ensure all inspections are carried out against current, controlled documentation
- Accurately log inspection results, defect types, and non-conformances in line with quality procedures
- Assist in identification of fault trends and escalate recurring issues to the Quality Engineer or Manager
Support & Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Quality, Production, and Engineering teams to resolve issues and improve outcomes
- Support training initiatives by sharing best practices and upholding quality culture on the shop floor
- Assist with customer returns (RMA) and inspection of reworked product
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing quality
Rework & ESD Compliance:
- Carry out rework or soldering on surface mount and through-hole PCB assemblies when required to J-STD-001 or IPC-7711-7721 as applicable.
- Adhere to ESD protocols and ensure EPA (Electrostatic Protected Area) standards are maintained.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience in a quality inspection or electronic assembly role within a manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with PCB assembly processes and electronic components
- IPC-A-610 certification is desirable; training can be provided
- Able to interpret engineering drawings and work to technical documentation
- Experience with AOI and X-ray inspection equipment is beneficial
- Desirable experience soldering to J-STD-001
- Desirable experience with PCBA rework methods, including soldering replacement of conventional and surface mount components to IPC-7711-7721
