Job Title: HGV Driver
Job Purpose
To safely operate refuse collection vehicles and support the efficient collection of waste and recycling services. The post holder will work alongside a loader, assisting with loading duties where required, ensuring all collections are completed safely, efficiently, and within agreed timescales.
The role requires a flexible and reliable individual with excellent driving skills, route-planning abilities, and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within a small, established team of drivers and loaders.
Key Responsibilities
Waste Collection Operations

Operate refuse collection vehicles safely and efficiently in accordance with road traffic legislation and company procedures.

Complete scheduled waste and recycling collections across designated routes.

Assist loaders with waste collection and loading activities as required.

Ensure all collections are completed daily and to the required service standards.

Plot and manage collection routes effectively to maximise efficiency and ensure timely completion of rounds.
Team Working

Work collaboratively with loaders and fellow drivers to deliver an effective waste collection service.

Communicate effectively with team members throughout the working day.

Adhere to all health and safety regulations, procedures, and safe working practices.

Undertake manual handling activities safely and correctly.

Experience
Essential

Experience driving large commercial vehicles.

Desirable

Previous dustcart/refuse collection driving experience.

Experience working for a Local Authority.

Qualifications
Essential
-
Valid Category C (Class 2) HGV Driving Licence.

Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
Desirable

Manual Handling qualification or training.

Driver Assistance/Driver Mate experience or training.

Interview Information

Interviews will take place at Unit 4, Sandgate Industrial Estate, 57 Sandgate Street, Southwark, Surrey, SE15 1LE, United Kingdom.

Interviews are expected to last no longer than 30 minutes.

Additional Information
Hours: 20 hours per week

Pay Rate: £24.15 per hour (UMB)

Drivers will work alongside a loader as part of the waste collection crew.

Drivers are expected to assist with loading duties when required.

Manual Handling training will be provided.

Driver Assistance training can be provided where necessary.

The role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Candidates must be prepared to work flexibly and beyond the contracted finish time of 2:00 pm to ensure all collections are completed.

The successful candidate must have the interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively within a small, established team of drivers and loaders.
