Location: Thornton Manor Care Home, CH2 4JQ

Hours: 18 Hours 8am – 6pm Rota Monday - Sunday
Purpose of the job
To assist with the preparation of meals for those who use the service, ensure the cleaning rota is adhered to and the kitchen space is hygienic at all times.
Key responsibilities
- To assist in the preparation of nutritional food to a high standard taking into account any special dietary requirements.
- To be part of a cohesive and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team.
- To contribute to improvement in health, safety and security by sharing learning from incidents.
- To work within the legal, ethical and the company’s policy framework, adopting an anti-discriminatory approach that promotes equality and values diversity.
- To contribute to the development of anti-discriminatory practice and values within the occupational therapy service.
- To clear dishes quickly and tidily.
- To maintain a high standard of hygiene.
- To distribute menus and collect service user’s orders.
- To store and use all stock in strict date rotational order.
- To be familiar with the Fire policy and procedure, highlighting hazards and acting in a way that maintains Fire Safety within the home, reporting issues to a line manager as required.
- To be familiar with the Fire Evacuation plan and be able to evacuate the home as required in line with the Fire Policy.
- To be vigilant with regards to the security of the home, particularly during the hours of dark when all windows and doors must be locked.
- To be vigilant with regards to the security of records, documentation and property of the home or service users in line with the homes GDPR policies.
- To help maintain a health and safety environment in the home and to report all accidents, breakages or equipment in the need of attention, of any description, to the Chef.
- To be fully conversant with Food Hygiene regulations and to ensure that you are familiar with any changes to such legislation and comply with such changes.
- To ensure “Basic Food Hygiene” is completed and kept up to date.
- To adhere to the cleaning rota and to sign on completion of each tasks, and to bring to the attention of the Chef any task not completed.
- To be familiar with and comply with the procedures, rules and regulations as laid down in the Employee Handbook and the Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- To be familiar with and comply with the regulations and procedures required in the execution of the above duties (i.e. food hygiene, fire precautions and health and safety).
- To take on a specific role and responsibility as part of your development plan.
- To undertake other duties as necessary.
Key competencies and skills
· To have food/beverage preparation skills.
· To have knowledge of health and safety procedures including being able to demonstrate an understanding of COSHH implications for materials/supplies,
· To be able to demonstrate an understanding of safe and correct food hygiene/handling procedures with a demonstrable knowledge of HACCP system,
· To have good written and verbal communication skills,
· To be able to keep accurate records,
· To be able to work to deadlines, being able to organise self and others, To be a good team worker, previous supervisory experience would be advantageous,
· To be able to demonstrate an understanding of infection control principles (including hazard compliance).
