About the Role:
Manchester has established itself as one of the United Kingdom's leading technology hubs, and at LGeOO Consumer Technology UK Ltd, we are building the data foundations behind the next generation of connected consumer products.
We are looking for a Principal Data Engineer who can take ownership of our data architecture and help shape how information is collected, processed, governed, and used across the business.
This is a senior individual contributor position with significant technical influence. You will work closely with software engineers, product teams, analysts, and business stakeholders to create reliable and scalable data platforms that support reporting, machine learning, customer insights, and operational decision making.
You will not simply maintain existing pipelines. You will define technical standards, guide architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and ensure our data environment can support continued business growth.
Why Work With Us?
The Environment:
Our Manchester team works from a modern city centre location with strong transport links and access to one of the fastest growing technology communities in the United Kingdom. We support focused technical work, open collaboration, and practical problem solving.
Technical Influence:
You will have a meaningful voice in platform architecture, technology selection, data governance, and engineering standards. We value engineers who challenge assumptions and propose better ways of working.
Modern Data Platform:
Our data environment includes cloud infrastructure, automated pipelines, distributed processing, data warehouses, APIs, and modern analytics tools. We encourage automation, infrastructure as code, and strong engineering discipline.
Professional Growth:
You will receive support for relevant certifications, technical conferences, professional memberships, and advanced training in cloud data engineering, platform architecture, and data governance.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Architecture:
Design and evolve scalable data architectures that support analytics, reporting, machine learning, and operational systems.
Pipeline Development:
Build and optimise reliable batch and real time data pipelines that process information from internal platforms, connected products, customer systems, and third party services.
Technical Leadership:
Set engineering standards for data modelling, testing, documentation, deployment, monitoring, and platform reliability.
Cloud Platform Ownership:
Guide the design and operation of cloud based data services, including data lakes, warehouses, orchestration tools, and processing environments.
Data Quality and Governance:
Establish controls that improve data accuracy, lineage, security, accessibility, and compliance across the organisation.
Performance Optimisation:
Identify bottlenecks in data processing and storage systems and introduce improvements that increase speed, stability, and cost efficiency.
Team Mentoring:
Support Data Engineers and Software Engineers through technical reviews, architecture discussions, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work with product managers, analysts, software teams, and senior stakeholders to translate business requirements into practical data solutions.
Platform Reliability:
Implement monitoring, alerting, recovery procedures, and automated testing to ensure critical data services remain dependable.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience:
At least 7 years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, data platform development, or a closely related discipline.
Technical Leadership:
Previous experience leading complex technical initiatives, defining engineering standards, or acting as a senior technical authority within a data team.
Programming Skills:
Strong ability in Python, SQL, and at least one additional programming or scripting language used in modern data environments.
Cloud Knowledge:
Practical experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
Data Technologies:
Strong knowledge of data warehouses, data lakes, ETL and ELT processes, distributed processing, workflow orchestration, and data modelling.
Engineering Practices:
Experience with automated testing, continuous integration, continuous deployment, version control, infrastructure as code, and production monitoring.
Problem Solving:
The ability to diagnose complex data issues, evaluate technical trade offs, and design solutions that remain maintainable as the business grows.
Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions to both engineering teams and non technical stakeholders.
Mindset:
You are practical, methodical, and comfortable taking ownership of complex technical problems. You understand when to improve an existing platform and when a more fundamental architectural change is required.
Pay: £76,531.00-£100,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
