Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, and experienced Weekend Cook to prepare nutritious, well-balanced meals for care home residents. The successful candidate will work every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, ensuring meals are prepared to a high standard while meeting individual dietary, cultural, and medical requirements. The role requires maintaining excellent food hygiene standards and contributing to a welcoming dining experience for residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook breakfast, lunch, evening meals, and snacks in accordance with planned menus.
- Cater for special dietary requirements, including allergies, texture-modified diets, diabetic, vegetarian, and other medically prescribed diets.
- Ensure all food is prepared, cooked, and served safely in line with food hygiene regulations.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen.
- Monitor food stock, rotate supplies, and minimise food waste.
- Record food temperatures and complete all required kitchen documentation.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is used safely and report any faults promptly.
- Follow infection prevention and health and safety procedures at all times.
- Work collaboratively with care staff to meet residents' nutritional needs and preferences.
- Provide a positive dining experience by presenting meals attractively and responding to resident feedback where appropriate.
Person SpecificationEssential
- Previous experience as a cook, preferably within a care home, healthcare, or catering environment.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling practices.
- Understanding of special dietary requirements and nutrition for older adults.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and compassionate approach.
Desirable
- Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working with elderly or vulnerable adults.
- Knowledge of Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards relating to nutrition and catering.
Working Hours
- Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
- Shift times as agreed with the employer.
- Flexibility to provide additional cover when required may be advantageous.
