The Opportunity
A private household in Melbourne, Derbyshire is looking for reliable, capable people to help with the day-to-day running, organisation and care of the home and property.
Rather than recruiting for one fixed role, we are looking to fulfil a range of household requirements.
You do not need to be able to do everything on this list.
We are interested in hearing from individuals or couples who can take responsibility for one or several areas. Depending on the people we find, the work could ultimately be divided between one person, a couple, or several part-time people.

1. Housekeeping & Cleaning
- General household cleaning
- Kitchen and bathroom cleaning
- Vacuuming, mopping and dusting
- Making and changing beds
- Periodic deep cleaning
- Keeping rooms clean, tidy and presentable
- Preparing guest bedrooms
- Cleaning and resetting rooms after guests
- Internal window cleaning where practical
- General household tidying
2. Laundry & Household Organisation
- Washing and drying
- Ironing and folding
- Changing and organising bed linen
- Wardrobe organisation
- Cupboard and drawer organisation
- Household sorting and decluttering
- Organising storage areas
- Keeping household supplies stocked
- Receiving and putting away household deliveries
- Helping maintain an organised and well-run home
3. Food Shopping & Food Preparation
- Grocery shopping
- Keeping food supplies stocked
- Fridge, freezer and cupboard organisation
- Meal planning
- Preparing straightforward, healthy home-cooked food
- Preparing lunches, salads and evening meals
- Food preparation in advance
- Batch cooking
- Freezer organisation
- Keeping the kitchen clean and organised
- Occasional food preparation for family or guests
A professional chef is not required. We are looking for someone who enjoys preparing good everyday food.
4. Garden & Outdoor Areas
- Lawn mowing
- Weeding
- Watering and plant care
- General garden maintenance
- Hedge and shrub maintenance
- Leaf clearing
- Seasonal garden jobs
- Keeping paths and entrances tidy
- Outdoor furniture care
- Pressure washing where appropriate
- Keeping sheds, garages and outdoor storage organised
- General outdoor tidying
Specialist gardening and tree work can be undertaken by external contractors.
5. Household & Property Maintenance
- General practical jobs around the home
- Basic DIY
- Minor repairs
- Touch-up painting
- Hanging pictures and shelves
- Furniture assembly and minor repairs
- Changing light bulbs
- Checking doors, gates and locks
- Identifying maintenance issues
- Keeping tools and equipment organised
- Meeting tradespeople and providing access
- Helping arrange appropriate contractors
- Keeping track of outstanding household maintenance
Qualified tradespeople would always be used for electrical, gas, plumbing and other specialist work.
6. Cars, Bins & General Property Care
- Washing cars
- Cleaning and vacuuming vehicle interiors
- Keeping driveways and parking areas tidy
- Putting bins and recycling out
- Keeping bin areas clean
- Taking in parcels and deliveries
- Moving and organising household items
- General property checks
- Helping care for the property when the household is away

A driving licence would be beneficial for some of the responsibilities.
