Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and reliable HGV Mechanic to join our in-house maintenance team based in Luton and Milton Keynes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and supporting the operational readiness of our HGV fleet, ensuring vehicles remain safe, compliant, and fully operational. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a skilled heavy vehicle mechanic to contribute to a professional and well-run transport operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on tractor units and trailers
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults using diagnostic equipment, including Jaltest
- Repair or replace faulty components and systems efficiently
- Prepare vehicles for inspections and statutory testing
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, inspections, and repairs
- Assist with the installation of new equipment where required
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety regulations and company procedures
- Work closely with operational teams to minimise vehicle downtime
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergency repair requests to reduce operational disruption
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an HGV Mechanic
- Strong knowledge of HGV systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical components
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams
- Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and workshop equipment
- Experience working with tractor units and trailers
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Relevant mechanical qualifications are essential
- Valid HGV driving licence
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- MOT experience is advantageous
