What You'll Do
Deliver Projects Safely, On Time and to Budget (Project Manager - Works Delivery)
As a Project Manager within Works Delivery, you will be accountable for delivery of a portfolio of projects in a safe and environmentally responsible manner to time, cost and quality, in accordance with the Governance of Railway Investment Projects (GRIP), applicable Network Rail company standards, current legislation and procedures including HMRI guidance where appropriate.
Lead & Develop Teams
Lead, inspire, direct and develop specialist teams to deliver successful projects to meet route objectives for internal and external stakeholders.
Coordinate Multi-Disciplinary Delivery
Direct and co-ordinate multi-disciplinary teams including commercial, programme controls, engineering, and others to identify cost-effective solutions, establish robust baseline plans and manage delivery through to project completion.
Manage Risk & Change
Lead the identification and monitoring of project risks (threats and opportunities), including planning and implementation of mitigation.
Respond to emerging issues, implementing change control in collaboration with clients and contractors in accordance with Network Rail processes.
Plan & Manage Resources
Manage resource planning for current and projected work banks, including identification and management of critical resource requirements for direct labour, contingent and specialist resources in line with Network Rail policies.
Engage Stakeholders
Engage with and lead stakeholder relationships across internal and external parties, taking into account their influence and interests.
Ensure Governance & Assurance
Establish and maintain governance arrangements for project delivery, defining clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities aligned to organisational practice.
Manage project reviews throughout the lifecycle to inform governance decisions, including progress, performance, risk, contingency and ongoing relevance.
Ensure Compliance (CDM & Safety)
Accountable for the management and implementation of Construction Design Management (CDM) requirements to ensure full regulatory compliance, including oversight of the Works Delivery Principal Contractors Licence.
Manage Business Cases & Project Controls
Manage and update business cases, ensuring projects are justified in terms of benefits, costs and risks.
Work closely with clients and support the Project Sponsor in preparing and maintaining project definitions.
Lead Incident Investigation
Lead and undertake accident investigations when required by the designated competent person.
What You'll Need
Successful experience within a project environment, including team leadership, planning, contracting and project delivery.
Proven track record in managing project budgets and interpreting commercial and financial data (budgets, forecasts and actuals).
Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects successfully.
Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity, with strong evaluation and decision-making skills.
Proven experience in accident investigation and safety management in project delivery.
Knowledge
In-depth knowledge and application of Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations.
Detailed understanding of Health and Safety legislation and best practice.
Strong awareness of commercial, financial and project governance principles.
Skills
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills across all levels, including customers, third parties, delivery teams and senior leaders.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, influence and develop teams.
Ability to drive safe working practices and ensure compliance.
Effective problem-solving, decision-making and organisational skills.
What you'll bring
Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Member of the Association for Project Management (APM) or equivalent, working towards or holding chartered status (or equivalent).
Desirable
Demonstrable experience within the Rail Industry, including application of GRIP methodology.
Knowledge of investment, commercial and procurement regulations and practices.
Formal qualifications in risk identification and assessment.
Understanding of Network Rail assets and asset management practices.
A proactive, self-starting team player with willingness to learn, challenge and contribute.
