Job Title: Cook (Nursing Home)
Job Summary:
The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, appetizing meals to residents in a nursing home setting. This role ensures that all meals meet dietary requirements, food safety standards, and the individual needs of residents, while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus and dietary guidelines (e.g., low-sodium, diabetic, pureed diets).
- Ensure food is prepared in a timely manner and served at appropriate temperatures.
- Follow residents’ specific dietary restrictions and portion requirements.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and comply with health and safety regulations.
- Monitor food inventory and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
- Store food properly to prevent spoilage and contamination.
- Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas regularly.
- Assist in menu planning in collaboration with dietitians or management.
- Ensure compliance with relevant food safety laws and nursing home policies.
- Accommodate special requests or cultural dietary needs where possible.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience as a cook, preferably in healthcare, hospitality, or institutional settings.
- Knowledge of special diets and nutrition for elderly residents.
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards (e.g., HACCP).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Food hygiene certification (required in many regions).
Working Conditions:
- Shift work, including weekends and holidays.
- Standing for long periods and working in a hot kitchen environment.

Pay: £12.71-£15.00 per hour
