Job Summary
As a Data Centre Technician at LMG, you will work closely with on-site teams and our client, providing day-to-day technical support within a live data centre environment.
This role involves supporting a wide range of data centre systems and infrastructure, from structured cabling connectivity requests (patching, testing, validation, and decommissioning) through to larger cabling installations. You will play a key role in ensuring data accuracy, service reliability, and a high standard of delivery across all tasks.
You'll be a customer-focused and adaptable technician, comfortable responding to faults and requests as they arise, with a strong understanding of data centre operations and a proactive, team-oriented approach.
What You'll Be Doing

Install, terminate, and test copper (Cat6 / Cat6A) and fibre optic (singlemode and multimode) cabling safely within live data centre environments.

Carry out patching, termination, and fly-lead installation on infrastructure frames and within host cabinets.

Provide 1st and 2nd line fault diagnosis and resolution for structured cabling systems and network connectivity issues.

Test infrastructure using Fluke test equipment and LinkWare software, ensuring compliance with manufacturer, client, and industry standards.

Support and deliver data centre migrations, including provisioning, testing, out-of-hours support, and decommissioning activities.

Act as a point of contact for incident support, migration assistance, and third-party escorting.

Engage directly with end users to diagnose issues and understand technical requirements.

Liaise with Project Managers and Data Centre Leads to ensure work is delivered safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.

Supervise third-party contractors on site, ensuring compliance with change governance, safety, and quality procedures.

Produce clear and accurate documentation, including test results, installation records, and end-of-shift progress reports.

Maintain accurate installation, circuit, and asset documentation, highlighting any deviations from design or scope.

Work from drawings, schematics, and specifications, always adhering to RAMS and on-site health and safety requirements.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a reliable and technically capable Data Centre Technician with strong cabling experience and a customer-focused mindset. The ideal candidate will bring:

A solid understanding of structured cabling systems and data centre environments.

Experience working safely within live operational facilities.

The ability to diagnose and resolve faults efficiently and methodically.

Strong communication skills, with confidence engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly around documentation and reporting.

A proactive, flexible approach with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and out-of-hours requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
-
Valid ECS or CSCS card.
-
Relevant industry qualification (e.g. CNet CNCI, CNet CNIT, BICSI Installer Level 2/3, or equivalent).

IPAF certification.
-
Full UK driving licence.
-
At least 3 years' relevant practical experience in a similar role.

Experience installing and supporting copper and fibre ICT cabling systems.

General understanding of data centre operations and environments.
Desirable:
-
First Aid qualification.
-
Minimum five GCSEs (A*-C / 4-9), including Maths and English.

Experience working with CommScope Intelligent Infrastructure.

Awareness of Audio Visual, Electronic Security, IoT, and wired and wireless network architectures.
