Support Worker – Learning Disabilities & Autism

Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and community-based support to adults with learning disabilities and autism.
- Encourage and support individuals to participate in educational, recreational, social, and community activities.
- Build positive, trusting relationships through mentoring, encouragement, and active listening.
- Support individuals with daily living tasks, including personal care, meal preparation, medication support (where appropriate), shopping, budgeting, and household duties.
- Assist with attending appointments and accessing community services.
- Support individuals with transportation where required.
- Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, social workers, and other agencies to deliver person-centred support plans.
- Promote independence, confidence, choice, dignity, and inclusion at all times.
- Encourage positive behaviour and develop social and life skills through guidance and positive role modelling.
- Observe, monitor, and accurately record individuals' progress, achievements, and any incidents in accordance with company policies and CQC standards.
- Safeguard the welfare of individuals and report any concerns promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or autism in a care, community, supported living, or residential setting is desirable.
- A caring, compassionate, and respectful approach to supporting others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays where required.
- A commitment to promoting independence, dignity, and person-centred care.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ/QCF Level 2 or Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards one).
- Training in Autism Awareness, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Safeguarding, Medication Administration, Moving and Handling, or First Aid.
- Full UK driving licence (desirable but not essential).
