We are looking for a competent and experienced Commis Chef to join our busy kitchen team at The View Restaurant.
This is a fast-paced commercial kitchen, so previous professional kitchen experience is essential. We are looking for someone who is confident, hardworking, organised and capable of getting on with the job without needing constant supervision.
You will be expected to prepare and cook fresh ingredients to the specification of our current menu. Training will be provided on our specific dishes and menu items, but you must already have the confidence and ability to carry out the basic preparation and cooking duties independently.
The role will include:
- Preparing and cooking fresh ingredients to the required menu specification.
- Working confidently and efficiently without constant supervision.
- Maintaining an organised, clean and tidy workstation at all times.
- Working effectively during busy and demanding service periods.
- Completing all required kitchen opening and closing checks in line with EHO and food safety requirements.
- Receiving, checking, rotating and organising stock on a daily basis.
- Ensuring food is stored correctly and stock rotation procedures are followed.
- Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and personal hygiene.
- Carrying out regular deep cleaning of the kitchen, equipment and work areas as required.
- Following all commercial kitchen procedures, food safety regulations and health and safety requirements.
- Supporting the rest of the kitchen team to ensure smooth and efficient service.
The successful candidate must:
- Have previous experience working in a commercial kitchen.
- Hold an in-date Food Safety Certificate.
- Be confident preparing and cooking basic dishes without constant supervision.
- Be able to cope with a busy, fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Be organised and have excellent time-management skills.
- Maintain an exceptionally high standard of cleanliness and organisation.
- Understand the importance of food safety, kitchen checks and commercial kitchen procedures.
- Be reliable, hardworking and willing to work as part of a team.
- Have a positive attitude and be willing to learn and develop their skills.
Working Hours
Flexibility is essential for this position.
You will be required to work mornings and evenings on any day of the week, depending on the requirements of the business. This will include weekends, bank holidays and other busy periods.
You will also be required to work over the Christmas period, so applicants must be able to commit to working during the festive season.
