Dentistry at The Crown, Aberfeldy
Start date: December 2026
Hours: Three or four days per week, Monday to Thursday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm
Pay: £30 per hour if employed, or a progressive 30–40% fee split if self-employed
Contract: Maternity cover until approximately August 2027, with the potential for a permanent part-time position afterwards
Employment basis: Employed or self-employed, depending on the agreed working arrangement
We are looking for a friendly and conscientious dental hygienist or therapist to care for our established patient base while our current therapist is on maternity leave.
You would join a close-knit and supportive team in our modern, predominantly private, independent three-surgery practice in the heart of Aberfeldy, approximately 40 minutes from Perth.
We are ideally looking for someone to work three or four days per week and would be happy to discuss the working pattern that best suits the right candidate. We will aim to offer consecutive working days where possible.
For the right candidate, we may also consider a two-day arrangement. In that case, the diary would be focused predominantly on hygiene and periodontal care rather than restorative therapy.
Pay and employment options
An employed clinician would receive:
- £30 per hour
- Paid annual leave
- Workplace pension contributions
- GDC registration paid by the practice
- Professional indemnity cover provided by the practice
- Guaranteed hourly income regardless of occasional diary gaps
Alternatively, we are open to discussing a self-employed arrangement based on a progressive 30–40% fee split. Full details of the fee scale will be provided and discussed during the interview process, with the thresholds reflecting the agreed number of clinical days.
What we can offer
- An established and appreciative patient base
- A predominantly private diary
- Existing demand for direct-access appointments
- Dedicated dental nursing support each day
- 30 or 60-minute appointments, depending on the patient’s clinical needs
- Additional time and support for restorative treatment where appropriate
- A large, modern and well-equipped surgery
- Supportive dentists who are readily available for advice or a second opinion
- Regular team study evenings and opportunities to develop your skills and confidence
- Free parking
- The possibility of a permanent part-time position following the maternity-cover period
The role
Our clinical approach focuses on prevention, implementation of the S3 periodontal guidelines and helping patients achieve and maintain periodontal stability.
The role will include:
- Providing routine hygiene and periodontal care
- Delivering tailored oral health and preventive advice
- Providing Guided Biofilm Therapy where appropriate
- Maintaining clear and accurate clinical records
- Working closely with our dentists and nursing team to provide joined-up patient care
- Providing care under Direct Access, according to your experience, confidence and personal scope of practice
- For therapist applicants, providing restorative treatment within your scope of practice and according to your experience and confidence
The diary can be tailored appropriately depending on whether the successful candidate joins us as a dental hygienist or dental therapist.
Practice owners Chris and Iona Cairns have extensive experience of working with hygienists and therapists and genuinely value their contribution throughout the patient journey. They are always happy to come into the surgery when a second opinion or additional support would be helpful.
Equipment
You will have access to:
- EMS AIRFLOW and PIEZON equipment
- A wide selection of diamond-sharp LM Gracey curettes and hand scalers
- An intraoral scanner
- Intraoral and clinical cameras
- Modern intraoral X-ray equipment and an OPT machine
- Rubber dam equipment
- A wide range of matrix systems and restorative burs
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Is registered with the General Dental Council as a dental hygienist or dental therapist
- Is committed to high-quality, patient-centred care
- Communicates warmly and works well as part of a close-knit team
- Has an interest in preventive and periodontal care
- Is comfortable asking for support or a second opinion when appropriate
- If working on a self-employed basis, has appropriate professional indemnity in place
Experience with Guided Biofilm Therapy and Direct Access would be welcome but is not essential, as support can be provided.
If this sounds like the right fit for you, please apply through Indeed with your CV. If you would prefer an informal and confidential conversation before applying, please contact us at [email protected]. We would be very happy to answer any questions.
