Job Summary
We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and customer-focused Front of House Café Team Member / Barista to join our University of Surrey Coffee Shops team.
This is a varied front of house role, working as part of a busy café team serving our university community, staff, students and visitors. The role will include preparing and serving barista coffee and other drinks, serving food, operating the till, keeping the café clean and well-presented, restocking, supporting with daily service, and helping to create a warm and welcoming environment for every customer.
Exceptional customer service is at the heart of what we do. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in delivering high standards, and can bring a positive, helpful attitude to every shift.
Usual working hours will be Monday to Friday, however flexibility is required to work a small number of Saturdays or Sundays throughout the year to support University Open Days and other key events in the university calendar.
Key duties will include:
Preparing and serving barista coffee and other hot and cold drinks
Serving food and supporting with general café service
Operating the till and handling customer transactions
Providing excellent customer service to students, staff and visitors
Keeping front of house areas clean, tidy and well-stocked
Following food safety, health and safety, and hygiene procedures
Supporting the wider team with day-to-day café duties as required
Working flexibly across University of Surrey coffee shop locations when needed
We are looking for someone who:
Has a genuine passion for great customer service
Is friendly, reliable and approachable
Works well as part of a team
Can stay calm and positive during busy service periods
Takes pride in keeping standards high
Is willing to learn and support wherever needed
Has previous café, barista, hospitality or customer service experience, although full training can be provided for the right person
