About the role
We are looking to recruit a technical officer within our vibrant Environmental Health Team.
The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, confident working alongside colleagues and dealing with residents, tenants, business operators and landlords.
You will be part of a successful and mutually supportive private sector housing team. You will work in dealing with private sector housing complaints, houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), overseeing disabled facilities grants. You will have an opportunity to develop your knowledge in these areas. We welcome applications from those working in Regulatory and engagement roles with an aptitude to learn.

As this role is customer-facing, we will discuss the right combination of home and office-based working for you and the service. You may occasionally need to work within the borough on some evenings or weekends to meet the needs of the service.
About you
You will need strong negotiation and collaboration skills and experience of working with customers and professionals. Knowledge of private sector housing legislation and environmental health more generally is desirable.
You will possess excellent people skills allied with the proven ability to listen, explain, negotiate and influence. You will have a track record of good performance in a busy environment.
As this role is customer-facing, we will discuss the right combination of home and office-based working for you and the service. You may occasionally need to work within the borough on some evenings or weekends to meet the needs of the service.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role) and the ability to travel throughout the borough is essential.
You must hold a valid UK driving licence and access to a car is desired.
