Role Summary
As a Senior Support Worker, you will play a key leadership role within the service, supporting adults with learning disabilities while guiding and mentoring your team to deliver high-quality, person-centred care. You will act as a shift leader, ensuring smooth daily operations, effective communication and consistent standards of support.
You may work across services supporting individuals with mild learning disabilities, mild to moderate learning disabilities and dementia, or complex and profound needs.
Previous experience in learning disability support or care settings is essential.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Support
- Lead shifts, organise daily duties and ensure the smooth running of the service.
- Support, mentor and guide Support Workers to deliver safe, effective and consistent care.
- Promote a positive team culture where communication, respect and teamwork thrive.
- Ensure new staff receive appropriate guidance and contribute to ongoing training and development.
Care & Support Delivery
- Provide high-quality, person-centred support tailored to individual goals and needs.
- Assist with daily living activities, including personal care, mobility, medication and health management.
- Support individuals to participate in activities, develop skills and engage within their community.
- Encourage independence, choice and involvement in all aspects of day-to-day life.
Communication & Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate documentation, including care plans, risk assessments and daily notes.
- Liaise effectively with families, colleagues and external professionals.
- Ensure that safeguarding, health and safety and organisational policies are followed at all times.
Operational Responsibilities
- Respond to incidents and emergencies appropriately and professionally.
- Contribute to rota planning and ensure adequate staffing levels during each shift.
- Support the Service Manager with delegated tasks, audits and service improvements as required.
- Promote best practice and continuously uphold Inspire Sussex’s values and standards.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience working in a learning disability or care support setting.
- Ability to lead a team, delegate tasks and model good practice.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence in making decisions and taking responsibility when leading shifts.
- A commitment to person-centred care, dignity and safeguarding.
Desirable
- Health & Social Care qualification (Level 2/3 or above).
- Experience supporting individuals with complex needs or dementia.
- Knowledge of positive behaviour support.
