Occupational Therapist – Sensory Integration
Specialist Independent School | Part-Time | Flexible Working
We are recruiting for an Occupational Therapist with sensory integration experience to join a small, specialist independent school supporting children and young people with additional needs.
The school takes a therapeutic-education approach, with therapy incorporated into everyday learning and activities rather than delivered solely through traditional clinical sessions.
The Role
You will support students to develop their independence, regulation and ability to engage with learning by working closely with them and the wider education team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing students' occupational and sensory needs.
- Developing practical strategies to support sensory regulation, participation and engagement.
- Delivering targeted interventions where appropriate.
- Working alongside education staff to incorporate recommendations into the school day.
- Providing guidance and training to staff around sensory needs and regulation.
- Contributing to individual support planning and multidisciplinary discussions.
- Building positive relationships with students and adapting your approach to their individual presentation.
- Helping staff understand how sensory and occupational needs can affect behaviour, emotional regulation and learning.
This is a hands-on role where you will be encouraged to work alongside students and staff within their everyday environment, rather than operating separately from the wider team.
About You
You will be an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with experience or a strong interest in working with children and young people.
Ideally, you will have:
- Experience supporting children or young people with sensory processing needs and neurodivergence.
- Experience applying sensory integration principles within practice.
- An understanding of how sensory needs can affect emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement.
- A collaborative and relationship-led approach.
- The confidence to work flexibly within a non-traditional educational environment.
- A practical approach to intervention and a willingness to get involved in activities alongside students.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to support and develop the wider staff team.

Working Pattern
The school can offer flexibility around the successful candidate's availability, with options including:
- 1–3 days per week
- Part-time employment
- Consultancy
- Locum-to-permanent arrangements
The exact working pattern and package can be discussed depending on experience and requirements.

This is a small, independent specialist provision with a highly individualised approach to education and wellbeing. The environment is informal and practical, with outdoor activities, animals and hands-on learning forming part of the school day.
