Role Overview:
The Teaching Assistant will support tutors in delivering high-quality teaching and learning within an independent training provider setting. Working with learners aged 14–19, the role involves supporting students in both classroom and practical environments, ensuring they remain engaged, motivated, and able to achieve their full potential.
The post holder will play a key role in supporting learners with diverse needs, including those who may require additional learning support, and will contribute to a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Learner Support:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to learners aged 14–19.
- Assist learners in understanding lesson content and completing tasks.
- Support students with additional needs (e.g. SEND, EHCPs, or behavioural needs).
- Encourage learner engagement, confidence, and independence.
Classroom Support:
- Assist tutors with lesson preparation, delivery, and classroom management.
- Help maintain a productive and inclusive learning environment.
- Support practical sessions, workshops, or vocational training activities where applicable.
- Monitor learner progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
Safeguarding and Wellbeing:
- Promote safeguarding and ensure the safety and wellbeing of all learners.
- Recognise and report any safeguarding concerns in line with organisational policies.
- Support positive behaviour management strategies.
Administrative Duties
- Assist with marking, record-keeping, and tracking learner progress.
- Support attendance monitoring and follow-up processes.
- Prepare learning resources and materials.
Pastoral Support:
- Provide mentoring and support to help learners overcome barriers to education.
- Promote positive attitudes towards learning, employability, and progression.
- Help learners develop essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and resilience.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
- Experience working with young people aged 14–19.
- Good understanding of supporting learners with varying abilities and needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A patient, supportive, and adaptable approach.
- Basic literacy and numeracy (GCSE Grade 4/C or equivalent in English and Maths).
Desirable Criteria:
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
- Experience in an independent training provider or further education setting.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and SEND support strategies.
- Experience supporting vocational or employability programmes.

Pay: £22,000.00-£27,000.00 per year
