Senior Solicitor (Governance)
Hours: 37 Hours Per Week
Contract: Temporary (ASAP – 2+ Months)
We're recruiting a Senior Solicitor to join the Council. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified legal professional with strong experience in providing high-quality legal advice to Monitoring Officer, Deputy Monitoring Officer, and other colleagues across the Council on governance and other matters.
About the Role:
As a Senior Solicitor, you'll provide expert legal advice and support to Council. You'll manage legal caseloads, undertake research and drafting, and work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of legal services in line with legislation, policies, and professional standards.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Advise committees and Full Council around lawful decision making and good governance
- Assist with the handling of complaints relating to the member code of conduct and the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Panel
- Provide management oversight of advice delivered as part of the Council's legal services to its maintained schools and ad hoc advice in relation to this
- Have considerable experience of working with local government organisations, including providing advice to senior colleagues regarding constitutional and other legal matters
- Provide governance advice to support the wider Corporate and Environmental Law team and Democratic Services
Requirements:
We're looking for a proactive, organised, and experienced Solicitor with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality legal advice in a professional environment.
You'll ideally have:
- Qualified Solicitor status with relevant professional experience
- Strong knowledge of legal processes and procedures
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience providing legal advice within a professional environment
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Experience working within a local authority or public sector legal team (desirable)
- Previous experience supervising or supporting other legal professionals (desirable)
