Overview
The Cornish Farmhouse Bacon company are high quality pork and bacon producers seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Butcher to join our team. This paid position offers a valuable opportunity to develop skills in Pork and bacon preparation, food safety, and butchery techniques within a professional environment. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in food production, with a desire to learn and grow in the butchery trade. This role provides hands-on experience working alongside experienced professionals in a busy wholesale setting. You will be working alongside our existing butchers and gaining experience. We can offer a level 2 qualification through Meat Ipswich. We are based at Whitstone, 10 miles from Bude and Launceston on a bus route.
Rate of pay starts at minimum wage for your age, regular pay reviews will be held as skills develop. Would suit 16 /17 year old school leaver.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and processing of pork & bacon, ensuring high standards of quality and presentation
- Learn and apply proper food safety and hygiene practices in all aspects of work
- Support the butchery team with tasks such as trimming, portioning, and packaging meat products
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the work area, including tools and equipment
- Follow instructions from senior staff regarding cutting techniques, safety procedures, and product handling
- Contribute to stock rotation and inventory management to minimise waste
- Engage in ongoing training to develop skills in food preparation, butchery techniques, and customer service
Qualifications
- Previous experience in food production, culinary settings, or restaurant environments is advantageous but not essential
- Basic knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Interest in butchery, food preparation, and kitchen operations
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Good communication skills and a positive attitude towards work

Pay: £16,500.00-£26,520.00 per year
