Overview
Caring and Sharing Rochdale is looking for a friendly, organised and community-minded Community Support Officer to support the delivery of our health and wellbeing programmes.
You will work with people from diverse communities, helping them access information, services and practical support. The role will involve a mix of community engagement, participant support, workshops, outreach and partnership working.
Some of our work includes supporting people affected by serious health conditions, helping older adults following discharge from hospital, and reducing barriers to health and care services.
The role will be based partly at our Rochdale Hub and partly in the community. This may include attending community events, visiting hospitals, hospices and other partner organisations, and building relationships with local services.
What You Will Be Doing
You will:
- Engage with community members and encourage participation in CAS programmes.
- Provide information, practical guidance and signposting to relevant services.
- Support the delivery of workshops, group sessions and community activities.
- Help recruit and support participants and volunteers.
- Build positive relationships with health, care and community organisations.
- Attend outreach events, meetings and partner locations when required.
- Keep simple records of activities, attendance and outcomes.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure participants receive appropriate support.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, approachable and comfortable working with people from different backgrounds.
- Organised and able to manage their time well.
- Confident communicating with both community members and professionals.
- Culturally sensitive, empathetic and non-judgemental.
- Proactive and comfortable carrying out community outreach.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Committed to reducing inequalities and helping people access the support they need.
Experience in community work, health and wellbeing, social care or the voluntary sector would be valuable. Experience working with migrant, refugee, asylum-seeking or ethnically diverse communities would also be an advantage.
Speaking an additional community language is desirable but not essential.
