Production Team Leader
Location: WePack, Cedar Court, Griffon Road, Quarry Hill Industrial Park, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 4RF
Hours: Monday to Friday, 06:00am to 2:30pm (40 hours per week, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break)

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Team Leader to join our Production team. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will be responsible for supervising production operatives, ensuring jobs are completed safely, efficiently, and to customer specifications while maintaining the highest standards of quality, hygiene, and compliance.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Production Team Leader, you will:
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead, motivate, and support production operatives on a daily basis.
- Ensure all team members are appropriately trained, engaged, and working safely.
- Support the onboarding and development of new and inexperienced staff.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive working environment.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback.
Production Operations
- Supervise day-to-day production activities to ensure targets are achieved.
- Set up production lines, machinery, and work areas ready for production.
- Review job bags, specifications, BOMs, production targets, and associated paperwork before commencing work.
- Brief operators on job requirements and customer expectations.
- Monitor workflow, productivity, downtime, and line performance.
- Support the Production Manager and assist on production lines as required.
- Escalate operational issues promptly to minimise disruption.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure products are packed in accordance with customer specifications and quality standards.
- Complete hourly quality checks and production inspections.
- Promote a "Right First Time" culture across the team.
- Complete and maintain accurate production, quality, and traceability records.
- Ensure all documentation is audit-ready and completed correctly.
Swab Testing & BRC Compliance
- Carry out environmental swab testing, including allergen, organic residue, and cleaning verification testing.
- Ensure samples are collected, stored, and recorded correctly.
- Maintain testing equipment and materials.
- Investigate and report any out-of-specification results.
- Ensure all BRC-related paperwork and records are completed accurately and on time.
Machinery & Equipment
- Set up machinery and equipment for production runs.
- Identify and resolve minor machinery issues where possible.
- Report equipment faults promptly to minimise downtime.
- Ensure machines are operated safely and efficiently.
Health, Safety & Housekeeping
- Promote and enforce all health, safety, hygiene, and housekeeping standards.
- Ensure work areas, equipment, floors, and walls are cleaned to required standards.
- Conduct regular checks to maintain a safe working environment.
- Address hazards and unsafe practices immediately.
Reporting & Systems
- Maintain accurate production records and KPI information.
- Complete administrative duties and production documentation.
- Use business systems including Nulogy, Link 50, Sage, Excel, and Google Sheets.
- Communicate clearly with colleagues, management, and stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Previous experience in a production, manufacturing, packing environment.
- Experience supervising or leading a team.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production targets.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence completing paperwork and using computer systems.
- Commitment to health, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Systems knowledge
Desirable
- Experience within a BRCGS-accredited environment.
- Knowledge of quality control processes and swab testing.
- Experience using production management systems Nulogy.
- Food, pharmaceutical, or contract packing experience.
