Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and proactive Caretaker to join one of our partner secondary schools on a full-time, 36-hour-per-week basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, security and general upkeep of the school site, ensuring a safe, clean and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.
This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards, can work independently and has a practical approach to problem-solving. Previous experience in a caretaking, facilities or site maintenance role is desirable. Applicants must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
Key Responsibilities
- Open and secure the school site each day in line with agreed procedures.
- Carry out routine maintenance, repairs and general handyman duties.
- Ensure the school buildings and grounds are clean, safe and well maintained.
- Conduct regular health and safety checks across the site.
- Report and respond to maintenance issues promptly.
- Liaise with contractors and oversee work carried out on site where required.
- Set up rooms and equipment for assemblies, meetings and school events.
- Monitor heating, lighting and other building systems.
- Maintain outdoor areas, including pathways, car parks and school grounds.
- Assist with deliveries and the movement of furniture and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety and site security procedures.
- Respond to emergency call-outs where necessary.
Requirements
- Previous caretaking, site maintenance or facilities experience is desirable.
- Practical maintenance and DIY skills.
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential).
- Right to work in the UK.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working within a school or educational setting.
- Experience carrying out basic plumbing, electrical or decorating repairs.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations and health and safety legislation.
- Experience managing contractors and site security.
- First Aid or Health & Safety qualifications (desirable but not essential).

Pay: £108.50-£120.00 per day
