Highest Qualification & Professional Experience:
Essential
- Level 3 qualification (minimum) in a relevant vocational, educational or subject-specific discipline.
- Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.

- GCSE Grade 4/C or equivalent in English and Maths.
- Experience delivering teaching, learning, assessment and learner support within Further Education, Independent Training Providers or post-16 education.

About the Position:
The Assessor – Post-16 SEND is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, learning, assessment and learner support for young people aged 16–25 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
The postholder will plan and deliver engaging learning, assess learner progress, implement EHCP outcomes and provide consistent pastoral support to enable learners to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence required for adulthood, employment and independent living.
Working collaboratively with colleagues, parents, carers, employers and external agencies, the Assessor will promote a culture of belonging, inclusion and high expectations whilst ensuring full compliance with organisational policies, safeguarding responsibilities, awarding organisation requirements and quality assurance processes.
Main Purpose
Under the direction of the Head of Post-16, the Trainer Assessor will plan, deliver and assess high-quality learning across Vocational Studies, Employability, Personal Wellbeing and Functional Skills (where appropriate), supporting learners with SEND to achieve their EHCP outcomes, qualifications and preparation for adulthood goals. Deliver engaging, inclusive teaching, learning and assessment across agreed curriculum areas.
- Support learners with SEND to achieve their individual EHCP outcomes and progression goals.
- Plan, assess and monitor learner progress using awarding organisation requirements and organisational systems.
- Maintain accurate learner records, assessment evidence and e-portfolios.
- Contribute to Internal Verification (IV), standardisation and quality assurance activities.
- Promote learner wellbeing, attendance, engagement and positive behaviour.
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, parents/carers, employers and external agencies.
- Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the role.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Assess learner work in line with awarding organisation requirements and provide timely developmental feedback.
- Monitor learner progress against qualification requirements, EHCP outcomes and individual learning targets.
- Prepare learners for internal and external assessment.
- Support learners to upload and organise evidence within the e-portfolio system.
- Maintain high expectations for learner achievement, attendance, behaviour and professional conduct.
Assessment, Quality and Compliance
- Maintain accurate learner records, assessment decisions and evidence using the organisation's e-portfolio and learner management systems.
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of Internal Verification (IV) and Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) processes.
- Participate in IV sampling, standardisation meetings and quality assurance activities.
- Prepare learner portfolios for internal and external quality assurance.
- Ensure assessment decisions are consistent with awarding organisation requirements.
- Support audits, inspection readiness and continuous quality improvement.
