Job Summary
The vacancy is for a casual HGV Class 1 (LGV C+E) Driver to provide holiday and additional operating cover during harvest.
The Company operates 4 straw lorries, 1 tipper and 1 ad hoc tanker/tipper. We would like to recruit someone who would be available to cover holidays (from one day to two weeks) and increase our capacity over harvest (July-September), primarily on our straw wagons, but potentially also on our other operations as well. There are ~100 available cover days and ~60 harvest days.
The straw lorries are 18m+ long, 4.8m+ wagon and drags designed to carry 36x 4’x4’ or 48x 4’x3’ straw bales destined for biomass power generation at power stations in the East of England.
Candidate Requirements
- HGV1 licence with Driver CPC
- Interested in agricultural haulage
- Self-employed applicants welcome if supplying own traction
- Good availability over harvest (July-September) desirable
- Previous agricultural and/or wagon & drag driving experience desirable but not essential
- Experience of strapping loads desirable
Candidate Duties
A typical day will start between 5.00am and 6.00am (occasionally earlier) and take you to a straw storage site on a farm where you will be loaded with large or midi hesston bales. You will strap up your load and deliver it to one of our customer’s fuel storage or processing sites in the East of England. To maximise earnings it makes sense to be ‘up the road’ for most of the week, overnighting on farm or near the customer’s sites but this is not an essential requirement as a casual driver.
Benefits & Salary
- Basic pay £14.00/hr first 8 hours M-F, £14.70/hr thereafter.
- Breaks paid for (worth an extra ~3-6% on the rate over employers who deduct for breaks).
- Overnight allowance £26.20 tax free.
- Saturdays £14.70/hr all hours worked.
- Sundays £14.70/hr first 8 hours, £19.38/hr thereafter.
- Bank holidays £19.38/hr all hours worked.
- CPC training organised and paid for by the Company, on Company time.
- Weekly pay.
