Behaviour Support Worker – September Start Newport | Full-Time | Potential Permanent Opportunity
Now Education is working in partnership with a supportive and inclusive school in Newport, seeking dedicated Behaviour Support Workers to join the team from September, with the opportunity for a permanent role for the right candidate.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work across both primary and secondary provisions, supporting pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), ADHD, anxiety, and a range of challenging behaviours.
The Role
As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will play a vital role in helping pupils re-engage with learning, regulate their emotions, and develop positive behaviour strategies. You will work with individuals and small groups, supporting pupils to overcome barriers and succeed in both their education and personal development.
You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment where all pupils feel understood and valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils in group-based learning environments.
- Promote positive behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation.
- Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils to support engagement and progress.
- Support social, emotional, and behavioural development.
- Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral staff.
- Use de-escalation techniques and behaviour support strategies when required.
- Help maintain a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
Who We’re Looking For
We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with backgrounds such as:
- Sports coaching or sporting backgrounds (team sports, youth coaching, fitness instruction).
- Youth work or community-based roles.
- Ex-police officers or ex-military personnel.
- Mental health support workers or care/support professionals.
- Individuals with direct experience supporting challenging behaviour in any setting.
You do not necessarily need formal classroom experience, what matters most is your ability to build relationships, stay calm under pressure, and positively influence young people.
Requirements
- Experience working with young people or vulnerable individuals (essential).
- Confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Available full-time, Monday to Friday (8:30am – 3:30pm).
- Team Teach training is desirable (training can be provided if needed).
- Good standard of written and spoken English.
- EWC registration (support available if required).
- Valid Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain).
