Boston Tea Party | Plymouth
Up to £40,000 | 40 hours a week | No evenings
Plymouth needs a brilliant General Manager. Could that be you? We believe brilliant cafés start with brilliant people.
And right now, we’re looking for an experienced General Manager to take the lead at Boston Tea Party Plymouth and help write its next chapter.
This is a role for someone who likes to make things happen. Someone who can walk into a café, understand what makes it tick, get to know the people behind it and quickly start spotting opportunities.
You’ll have the freedom and support to put your stamp on Plymouth, building a confident team, creating an amazing customer experience and growing a café that has bags of potential.
This is proper leadership
Being a General Manager at Boston isn’t about sitting in the office sending emails while everyone else runs the café. You’ll be in it.
Leading the team through a busy brunch. Checking in with someone who’s having a wobble. Coaching your next superstar. Talking to regulars. Spotting an opportunity to drive sales. Making sure the rota works. Celebrating a brilliant week.
And sometimes doing all of those things before lunch.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Building a happy, confident and capable café team
- Coaching and developing your people, including your future leaders
- Creating consistently brilliant food, coffee and service
- Building relationships with customers and the Plymouth community
- Growing sales and finding new opportunities
- Managing labour, stock, costs and profit
- Setting clear expectations and holding people accountable
- Creating a café your team and customers are genuinely proud of
The person we're looking for
You’ll ideally have experience managing a busy hospitality business and know your way around a P&L, rota and a very busy Saturday. But great General Managers are about far more than operational experience.
We’re looking for someone with energy, warmth and emotional intelligence. Someone people want to follow. You'll know when to coach, when to challenge and when someone simply needs you to listen.
You'll be commercially curious too, looking at your sales, understanding what’s happening in the café and asking what could we do differently? Most importantly, you’ll care. About your people. About your customers. About the café. About your community. And about leaving things better than you found them.
And did we mention the evenings? Because this is hospitality with a rather important difference.
We don't open in the evenings.
So you can have the challenge, pace, buzz and career of running a busy hospitality business, and still make plans for dinner.
You'll also get:
- Salary up to £40,000
- Quarterly bonus
- A 40-hour working week
- No evening shifts
- Food and coffee while you're working
- 50% discount
- Proper training and development
- Genuine opportunities to progress
- Support from people who actually understand what running a café is like
We’re independent, people-focused and values-led, and we’re ambitious about what Boston Tea Party Plymouth can become.
Now we need the person who wants to lead it there.
