We are looking for an experienced and motivated AAT-qualified Finance Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you’ll take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, leading a small team and ensuring financial processes, reporting and controls are delivered accurately, efficiently and on time.
This is a hands-on, varied role suited to an organised, proactive and commercially minded finance professional. You’ll be confident working independently, taking ownership and looking beyond the numbers to make a wider contribution to the success of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the Finance team, including Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger and Finance Administration.
- Oversee Purchase Ledger, including supplier statement reconciliations.
- Review bank reconciliations and prepare month-end reconciliations for approval and sign-off.
- Prepare and reconcile supplier payment runs.
- Assist with budget preparation, monitoring actual performance against budgets and producing variance reports.
- Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, accounting entries and month-end journals.
- Manage and support a team of three, providing mentoring, guidance and development opportunities.
- Assist with month-end financial close and audit preparation.
- Liaise with external auditors during year-end audits and support the review and development of current financial systems.
- Prepare and provide financial analysis and reporting, including ONS reporting and internal reports for the Board.
- Provide departmental cover and support across the wider finance function when required.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, systems and ways of working.
- Take ownership of finance-related issues, providing practical and effective solutions.
Essential
- AAT qualification.
- 3–5 years' proven experience in a Finance Manager role or a similar senior finance position.
- Experience of supervising and developing a small finance team.
- Strong understanding of purchase ledger, sales ledger, reconciliations, payment runs and month-end processes.
- Experience preparing budgets, management accounts and financial reports.
- Experience of working with auditors and supporting year-end processes.
- Good numerical ability and strong attention to detail.
- Good working knowledge of Sage 50 Accounts and ERP systems.
- Competent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication, organisation and time-management skills.
- The ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
- A proactive approach, with the ability to identify issues and take responsibility for resolving them.
- Strong team management, negotiation and influencing skills.
Desirable
- Currently studying towards, or willing to study towards ACCA/CIMA.
- Experience with other accounting/ERP systems.
- Experience communicating financial information effectively to non-finance colleagues.
- A positive, approachable manner with the ability to build strong working relationships.
- An interest in developing and implementing new ideas and improving finance processes.
