Job Title: Porter
Pay: £12.92 per hour (Mon–Fri), £18.22 per hour (night shifts & Saturday), £23.65 per hour (Sunday & Bank Holidays).

Location: Alder Hey Hospital
Shift Patterns: Monday to Sunday: 07:00–15:00, 08:00–16:00, 15:00–23:00, and 23:00–07:00.

Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is looking for 1 dedicated Porter to join our team. This is a great opportunity to play an important role in supporting patients, staff, and the smooth running of the hospital. You will help with the safe movement of patients, medical equipment, and supplies across the hospital.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Follow instructions from Line Manager, Chargehand, or ward staff.
- Safely transfer patients across wards, departments, and outpatient areas using beds, wheelchairs, or trolleys.
- Deliver and collect medical gases, urgent medical equipment, notes, specimens, and X-rays as required.
- Assist with deceased patient transfers and support viewings for relatives.
- Respond to emergency situations, including cardiac arrest, fire calls, and ambulance arrivals.
- Support hospital operations, including vehicle checks, security, and general portering tasks.
You’ll have the following skills/experience:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
- Good communication, literacy, and computer skills.
- Ability to work well with others and prioritise tasks.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety, Moving & Handling, Customer Care, and Infection Control.
- Professional, proactive, and able to use initiative.
- Full clean manual driving licence.
